The Kingmaker's Daughter
by Philippa Gregory
View in Library Catalog
book cover

This book follows the 2 daughters of the man who was responsible for people seated on the throne of England in the 1400's. It follows the 2 girls through their lives and does a beautiful job of following their changing view of the position of Queen from their childhood until their death. It is a wonderful, albeit at times a grim, look at the life of powerful women during that time period.

At its heart, this is a police procedural. But the characters are so well explored within this context and the circumstances so bizarre, that the story, though bloody and twisted, is very interesting. If you like cop drama, you will definitely enjoy this one.

This is the story of a woman and her ex-lover who wind up running for governor at the same time. It’s wonderfully done, mixing the story with present day natation and that of the past. It also tells the story from both protagonists’ point of view. And there is so much more to this story than first appears, and even when you think you have the whole story a whole other layer appears. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Excellent book. I almost put it down after a few pages, but I persevered and am glad I did. Very well written, interesting novel. Expats from Jamaica in England whose lives intersect and secrets are unraveled as the book progresses. Twists and turns I did not see coming. Looking forward to the next book by this author.

Albom delivers another story of faith as we read about the interconnected stories of people at sea and on land. He shines a light on how we are never alone and how that helps us heal from our deepest hurts.

Found it interesting the comparison between the great grandmother, who had a stroke, and the great grandson, who was artistic and nonverbal how they managed to communicate with each other with the use of an iPad, and how the great grandmothers story from her childhood in Poland during the World War II unfolds
