King Con
by Stephen J. Cannell

book cover

Some fascinating accounts of a con artist. I would have loved a little more psychological insight into how someone can pull off such an act like this person did. Accounts of his earlier life are painfully missing. But there are some details about the person's life that really are quite amazing that the author could have put all this research together.

The Big Sleep

This is a good old fashioned detective story where women were “dames” and were “notin but trouble”. The language is fun and the central character is the grounding influence here as everyone else in the story is either crazy or a killer…..and one is both.

As an accomplished crafter and fiber artist, this encyclopedic book covers all of my favorite crafts. Its oversized pages provide clear and detailed photographs with instructions on knitting, embroidery, needlepoint, quilting, crochet, applique and patchwork. Designed for both the beginner and advanced crafters, this book is a useful and beautiful addition to my crafting library.

This translated book from Japanese was very interesting. A boy of high school age who works in his family’s bookstore has just lost his grandfather who he lived with. He shuts himself away in the bookstore until a strange visitor comes into the shop. I liked the different writing this book presented as well as the way it presents a different way of looking a books.

Dead Sleep

In this story about women who go missing and then have their dead images appear in paintings, Isles does an excellent job in developing the characters and their connections to one another. And this is important because the subject matter here is often harsh and without this development of characters, it would simply be a brutal story. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and liked the ending.

The Stranger In The Lifeboat

Albom delivers another story of faith as we read about the interconnected stories of people at sea and on land. He shines a light on how we are never alone and how that helps us heal from our deepest hurts.

I loved this book! The science behind the neuroparacites and the black rocks was interesting and made sense. I also liked how the relationship between the characters developed and evolved. I just wish the MFC could focus a little more on the plot rather than THIRSTING OVER HER PROFESSOR!!!!

Widow's Walk

For those of us who read a lot of mysteries, after a while, you can often see the ending coming. Not in this one! The central character’s alibi appears to be that she is just too dumb to organize and commit this crime. And it turns out what she did do really ends up confusing the police. A good whodunit.
