Recipes and so much more! Cultural traditions, lessons learned, songs toward freedom, quotes from famous freedom fighters, and vignettes/quotes from people having experienced slavery as well as a variety of recipes. Regional recipes are shared from PA, the South, and other areas. This cookbook celebrated The Underground Railroad and all those living near it and participating in it. It reads like a history book as well as a cookbook. Highly recommended if you like cookbooks that share stories and anecdotes along with favorite recipes.

I have come to really enjoy Henry’s books when I need a lighter read that still has some real substance. This was truly a good book about two people who love each other but can’t get out of their own way to be together. My only problem was that, as a non-linear novel, both the current events and past events both contained dialogue, which, since I did it as an audio book, I felt made it harder to keep track of the time frame than if only the current time has the dialogue.

I enjoyed this Mystery. This is the first book I have read from this author. It takes place in the Outer Banks and surrounding regions and the library is in a lighthouse. A body is discovered on the steps of the library and has a direct relation with the newly employed Assistant Director who is the Main character in the story. This relation has been estranged from our main character Nichelle for 38 years since she was 16. I like the fast paced, to the point writing and I also wanted to know the answers which encouraged me to keep reading.

I vary rarely write reviews, so it's uncharacteristic for me to attempt one now. But, away I go. I absolutely loved The Calamity Club. Ms. Stockett does an excellent job of transporting this reader smack dab into the lives of southern women during the Great Depression in Mississippi. These southern women--and one astutely bright young girl--must be resourceful during a time where their men, including fathers, have passed, or shirked their parental duties, or left them bereft of financial opportunities to be able to survive and thrive. It's a must read tale of resilience, survival, hope, and love. And the power of women to overcome odds stacked against them.

I loved this book! The story touches on or at least mentions many of the gods and other recognizable figures from Greek mythology and really helped me understand how they connected. The story begins with Circe’s birth and life in the city with her family but then spends much time and attention on the island of Aeaea where she comes to terms with some old demons and charts the course for her future. If you like mythology, you will love this story.

Excellent book and this book is really three stories in one. As with all the “#1 Ladies Detective Agency” books, the setting is Botswana and the title story centers around finding a beauty contestant who is morally sound. Also, we see Mr. J.L. B. Matekoni struggle with a personal challenge, and Mma Makutsi does outstandingly well in a new role. To read these books and know these characters is to love them and Botswana.

This is a most enjoyable book as are all of Smith’s Botswana takes. This book has a couple of interesting story lines, including 2 where things are quite different from what they seem to be initially and one that puts Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni’s life in jeopardy. There is also a very touching couple of scenes from the Orphan Farm.
Twelve Angry Librarians

This is a new author for me and I loved this book. The central character is a part-time college librarian who has a cat that goes everywhere with him. His college is hosting a librarian’s convention at which someone who is hated by everyone is murdered, making everyone at the convention a suspect. The central character has a knack for solving crimes and is instrumental in helping the police with this one. A good and interesting plot with good characters. I look forward to reading something else by this author.
